NUSCA Festival

2024 - On going, Italy

NUSCA (nothing until something comes along) Festival aims to be an intersectional space for artists who, despite the difficulties of the market, continue to produce editorial and cinematographic works.
Thus, it was born from the idea of bringing together artistic figures from different realities in a single environment, giving them the opportunity to promote independent and/or self-produced projects: for this reason, it aims to be a point of encounter, collective exchange and dialogue between different worlds.
NUSCA Festival is divided into two moments, a publishing fair that will be followed by a film screening of the selected short films.
The first edition of the festival was held in Venice at Spazio Awai on September 21, 2024.
The second edition will be held on 24th-25th of May 2025.

NESSUN SOGNO DI NESSUN TIPO

2024, Italy, 9 min, italian, italian and english subtitles

Thanks to funds made available by Cinemazero of Pordenone (Memorie Animante di una Regione) and AMOOD of Rome (Archivio Audiovisivo del Movimento Operaio e Democratico), the IUAV University of Venice Documentary Film Lab is moving toward noncanonical forms of cinematic expression. At a time when the presence of archival images is widespread even in fiction cinema or in the more classic documentary, the need to interrogate representations of the past requires us to give space to works that place the archive at the center of their vision but do not use it in a merely illustrative or historical function.

(Excerpt from the catalog produced for the screening at the Cinema Rossini in Venice on July 9, 2024)

SYNOPSIS

Losing the reference of time, the connection with memory. Wandering into oblivion in search of a new truth. Voices bring up fragments of reality only for an instant, then sink back into the din of incommunicability. Traces hidden in the fog of the mind reduce bodies to essentials.

CREDITS

A project, developed into the IUAV University’s Documentarty Lab, guided by professor Marco Bertozzi, assited by Matteo Primiterra.
Written and edited by Camilla Francini, Giorgio Nigra, Umberto Santoro.
